PROJECT OUTLINE
The village of Mahazoarivo Sud, located in the district of Antsirabe, now benefits from a new drinking water supply system, bringing significant improvements to the daily lives of its inhabitants. This project puts an end to a long period during which women and children were forced to use polluted water for laundry and washing, with all the associated health risks.
To meet these essential needs, a modern public basin composed of five sinks has been built, allowing villagers to do their laundry and bathe in healthier and more comfortable conditions. Access to the basin has also been improved with the construction of stairs, providing residents with a safer and easier climb from the basin back up to the village. In addition, two water collection reservoirs with respective capacities of 0.7 m³ and 1 m³ have been installed, supplying two new standpipes. The project also required the installation of about 65 meters of piping.
Thanks to this infrastructure, the 1,500 inhabitants of Mahazoarivo Sud and 300 pupils from nearby schools now have access to clean water and reliable supply points, improving not only their hygiene conditions but also their daily quality of life. Women and children in particular see their burdens of water-fetching and laundry greatly eased, enabling them to devote more time to educational, social, or economic activities.
The completion of this project was made possible thanks to the altruism and generosity of Smart Pharma Consulting, a committed partner that has already collaborated on two other WASH projects alongside the NGO Madagascar Development Fund (MDF). A sum of 46,456,550 Ariary was allocated for this purpose. This new achievement once again demonstrates that with solid and sustainable cooperation, it is possible to bring about meaningful and positive change in the lives of rural communities in Madagascar.
