💡Objectives:

  • To improve access to primary education and increase capacity

  • To improve teaching/studying conditions

  • To contribute to the alleviation of poverty

  • To provide a healthier working/studying environment; to motivate the teachers, and give the pupils a greater sense of wellbeing

The primary school of Morarano started in 1980, built with funds raised by the villagers.  Made of mud and thatched roof, the building leaked badly during the rainy season, making it difficult for teachers to conduct classes and for students to learn. In addition, the school only had two classrooms, which are dark and badly ventilated, leading to a challenging learning environment for the 130 pupils who attend.

The lack of capacity means that classrooms were overcrowded, and students of different levels have to be taught in the same classroom. This created an environment where some students struggle to keep up, while others cannot progress at their own pace.

Morarano primary school required urgent attention to improve its infrastructure and capacity. By constructing these new classrooms, the school reduced overcrowding and provided a more conducive learning environment for the students. This would allow teachers to teach more effectively and provide more individual attention to each student. It enables the school to separate students by grade level, allowing for more specialized instruction and a better understanding of the students' individual needs.

Despite the poor conditions of the school, their rate in the exam CEPE is relatively good. The pass rate was at 75% in 2021.

The school had no water point in the school yard. The latrine was in poor condition and far to meet acceptable standards of hygiene and health.

The number of children in the vicinity who reach school age increases steadily each year.  About 30 more school age children are expected and even more in successive years.

The school has 3 teachers who are all recruited locally and paid partly in cash and in kind (cassava and sacks of rice) by members of the Association of Parents whose children attend the school.
