PROJECT OUTLINE

The village of Ambohitrakely, located in the Rural Commune of Ambohitrolomahitsy, recently benefited from a drinking water supply, putting an end to years of difficulties related to access to drinking water. Before the installation of this supply, the inhabitants of the locality, especially women and children, spent many hours each day fetching water from dirty sources, located far from their village. This situation had significant repercussions on the health and quality of life of the local population.

The project was made possible thanks to the generosity of Richard Carr, a long-time partner of the Madagascar Development Fund (MDF), who has already funded other community projects in Madagascar since 2017. This time, a sum of 74,701,700 Ariary was allocated to install 9 new standpipes. To achieve this, three catchments of 1.5m each were created and a 22m reservoir was installed. Nearly 5,520 meters of pipes were needed to complete this drinking water supply.

Thanks to this drinking water supply, more than 1,800 lives will be radically changed; the residents of Ambohitrolomahitsy now have access to clean, safe water. In addition, this water supply will also help stimulate economic development in one way or another. Ultimately, this new facility contributes to achieving the global goal of universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation by 2030.
